We were delighted to be recently nominated in a number of categories for the upcoming eircom Spider Awards. One entry we were very proud of was Mediastreet, nominated in the Listings category. We are particularly pleased that it was nominated in its launch year, so a big well done to Cormac, Ciara and the rest of the team in Mediastreet. It is a strong category, with some great entrants.

I recently attended the Cannes Lions 2011, the first time I have attended. Held at the Palais de Festivals (also where the film festival is held), it is the largest gathering of professionals from the advertising and creative industry. Around 8,000 attendees from all around the advertising world descend on the south of France for a mixture of seminars, awards ceremonies and networking events.

A couple of weeks ago, filled with hope and a bit of expectancy, a few of us went to the ICAD awards night. This year’s it was held at the Royal Hospital Killmainham. As a prelude to the night, ICAD had invited Dave Trott of CST to give a presentation on how to create more effective advertising.

Last night was Ireland’s first-ever Media Awards, held at the Burlington Hotel. ICAN’s media darlings were out in force, very proud of ICAN’s nomination for Media Agency of Year. We were one of only two independent Irish agencies to be short-listed in this category (and the only digitally focused one), the other nominees being globally owned media houses.

We were delighted to bring this home from the Digital Media Awards last Friday. So delighted in fact, the award nearly didn’t make it home at all.
Luckily for us, we take better care of our clients, which is of course why we had our hands on it in the first place.
The award was presented by Martin Murray, Head of Global Agency Operations at Google. Judges noted ICAN’S, “the consistent quality of ideas and strategy across a wide variety of campaigns”. Not our demure behaviour, dance moves or general decorum.
With so many talented agencies present, ICAN were delighted to be honoured with the award for Best Digital Agency.
And just a little overexcited.
