Super Bowl 2012 – The Brand Battle

With millions of dollars being spent on advertising during the Super Bowl, which brand will reign supreme? A nice way to see who is talking about a particular brand during the Super Bowl is Brand Bowl, which also gives each brand a sentiment score. BrandBowl monitors Twitter and ranks the Super Bowl television ads based on those who are watching and tweeting about them. Super Bowl ads are now both an online and a TV phenomena. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/29/us-superbowl-advertising-idUSTRE80S0JX20120129

Behind The Pregnant Man

I was reading the story behind the famous Pregnant Man ad that appeared in 1970. The idea was created by Jeremy Sinclair and Bill Atherton at Cramersaatchi later to be known as Saatchi and Saatchi. It was beautiful idea in it’s power and simplicity. It’s an example of how great ideas do not age over time.

Bright Idea

Harold Haas has an idea.

A very interesting idea.

Harold’s idea is to use an ordinary light bulb (adapted with signaling processing technology) to transmit data.

Think about that for a minute.

You could download films from the lamps in your house.

The computers in your office could connect to the Internet by the overhead lights.

It could benefit industries from deep sea diving to air travel.

Using something that is cheaper and more widely available than the present infrastructure.

The technology that makes this possible is called Visible Light Communication.

I prefer it’s nickname: Li-fi.

The light based alternative to Wi-fi.

A few years from now on the Internet could be just a flick of the lights away.

(Hat tip to Wired)

Here’s Harold demonstrating Li-Fi.

Getting Slated

At ICAN we spend a lot of time getting a bit stressed out at our computers. We thought it would be nice to go back in time, abandon technology and put paint to paper and get our hands dirty. So six of us headed to South Dublin Studios, stopping crucially in Fallon’s for a quick pick-me-up. Read more

Could you write a better headline than this?

Yes, it’s official, we’re looking for a new Copywriter!

After many years, we say goodbye to  our long serving  Senior Copywriter Lizzie Kinross, who is off to foreign shores and new adventures.  ICAN will miss her! But it does mean we now have an opportunity for a new writer to join us.  So here’s the spec:

This is a great opportunity for an experienced copywriter to join a creative digital ad agency in the city centre. You are a copywriter who understands and gets digital. You’ll have a portfolio that is bursting with creative ideas and proven creative genius! Not all of it has to be digital. We do a lot of  traditional  too.

What’s the role?

The successful candidate will create  concepts and copy for online advertising, social media, viral video, websites, direct mail, radio, press and T.V. with the majority of the focus being on Digital.  This is a genuine opportunity to create high quality, award winning creative work for many of Ireland’s best known brands. We’re looking for people with a minimum of five years experience. A mix of traditional and digital would be very good. But not essential. Salary and benefits to match experience.

So, if you’d like to be part of an agency, known for creativity and innovation, please contact andrew@ican.ie
