The Augmented Milky Bars are on me!

Contributed By Lynn Brennan, Media Planner / Buyer

I studied Augmented Reality in University and remember thinking how cool it was back then… We studied how augmented reality would change how we live and the ways we view the world. It’s really exciting to see it finally come into our everyday lives in the form of advertising and customer engagement.

Milky Bar have been doing a lot of advertising to launch their new Raisin and Biscuit product. They are complementing their TV ads with a nice Facebook campaign. The idea behind the campaign is ‘Ungrow up’. Users are encouraged to audition to be the new Milky Bar Kid using Augmented Reality and Face Recognition and sing the milky bar song. Every person who auditions gets a free bar of the new Raisin and Biscuit Milky Bar and could be in with a chance to star in a Milky Bar ad.

Another real cool use of Augmented Reality but on a larger scale is the Forever 21 campaign in the States; a new fashion brand that wanted to make an impact and so took their campaign to Times Square, New York!  This is really well done, and may be a sign of things to come for outdoor advertising in future.
